How to Avoid Clichés In Your College Essay
How to Avoid Clichés In Your College EssayIt is easy to fall into the trap of writing an essay on a cliche college topic. Of course, you don't want to do this; it will only hurt your grade and make it harder for you to score. So what can you do to avoid having to write the same old article in such a way? There are many different ways to handle this situation, and I have outlined them below.Avoid cliches: The first thing that you should do if you are still stuck on a specific topic is to avoid those cliches that seem to be the most popular. Take some time to get out of the typical topics and start to look for other topics that are not so common. Do some research and see what else you can come up with.Use Writing prompts: There are writing prompts out there that can help you write an essay more quickly. There are also writing prompts that can be used for personal essays. What you do with the writing prompts is up to you.Focus on one topic: You want to pick a topic that you feel strong ly about. If you feel strongly about having to clean your room then that is probably the right topic. If you are not very creative you may be able to write on a topic that is similar but you will need a bit more content.Write in a format that will help you understand the topic: Don't try to use flash cards or anything of the sort to help you with this because this is only going to be frustrating. The best method that I have found is to just stick to what you know and just do what comes naturally. This will help you understand the topic much easier and help you find a way to tackle it that you are comfortable with.Find a friend: Another way to tackle a difficult topic is to find a friend that has already tackled the same topic that you are facing and ask them for advice. They may be able to give you some tips or even guide you through a difficult part of the topic that you are faced with.Find a 'lesser known' essay topic: Perhaps the biggest reason that most people find themselves st uck on a cliche college topic is that they are not familiar with the topics. Look for an essay topic that you would like to write on. This may require research and some work but it is well worth it when you find the topic that you are comfortable with. One last point: Do not do it because you think it will make you seem smart or will impress others; do it because you want to write a good essay. If you stick to your guns, you will make your classmates think that you are a better writer than you actually are.
